According to a study by The Wall Street Journal, Amazon sells thousands of products that are banned or recognized as unsafe by federal agencies. The authors of the study reported that they found at least 4,152 products that met these criteria.
For example, medicines that did not have safety warnings for children, illegal prescription drugs, electronics with false safety UL certification, toys with unsafe amounts of lead or potential dangers of suffocation, and much more.
The problem is in a huge network of third-party Amazon sellers who freely sell similar products on the platform. These pages are quite difficult to interpret for the average user, as the only difference is the text message, which is written in small print in an inconspicuous place.
