Microsoft Will Not Release New Exclusive Games for Nintendo Switch or PS4
Earlier this year, Xbox fans were surprised when Nintendo thanked “friends at Microsoft” for making Cuphead on Switch a reality. In addition, this week Microsoft said that projects such as Ori and Blind Forest Definitive Edition will be available on the Nintendo Switch soon. Although Microsoft and Nintendo are joining forces to promote cross-platform games, it seems that we will not see any other exclusive Xbox projects running on Switch or PS4 in the near future. “The past year has been an exciting time for us as we have more than doubled the internal creative teams making up Xbox Game Studios,” - a Microsoft spokesperson says in a statement to “As these new studios transitioned in, we were aware of some existing commitments to other platforms and will honor them. However, going forward these new studios will focus on making games for our platforms. We have no plans to further expand our exclusive first party games to other consoles. We continue to believe deeply in cross-play and progression of games with the right flexibility for developers to insure a fair and fun experience.” So, if you were hoping to see such projects as Forza, Gears, Halo or even Killer Instinct on Switch or PS4 platforms, then we are going to disappoint you, these plans are not destined to come true. At this point in time, Microsoft is focusing on developing xCloud for cross-platform accessibility of its own games. But it’s worth noting that the availability of these streaming games in the cloud will largely depend on whether Nintendo and Sony allow the xCloud application on their platforms
