Tesla Autopilot Update: Now It “Understands” the Brake Lights of Other Road Users

Representatives of the American company Tesla reported that they have begun to introduce a new autopilot function, which is called “Autosteer Stop Light Warning”. It will notify drivers when the car that drives in front turns on the brake lights. This innovation will increase the level of traffic safety.

The update (version 2019.8.3) has become available for download just recently. If the car that drives ahead starts to break or turns on the turn signal, then the Tesla driver will receive the appropriate text and audio notification.

To develop this function, cartographic data were used, as well as a unique camera system that learned to recognize red lights using AL. Tesla promised that before the end of the year they will release another update that will understand the traffic lights.

Also, Elon Musk’s electric cars are able to interpret the intentions of other road users to change the lane. In this case, the autopilot resets the speed and allows the next car to freely rearrange. It is worth noting that before this update, the autopilot did not always correctly respond to such situations. Tesla specialists have been working on this update for a long time, so it should increase the level of safety and comfort for their owners.

  1. So, every time the car in front brakes you’re going to get a “The car in front is BRAKING!” announcement from your Tesla?!! That is going to get VERY annoying VERY quickly in heavy traffic (on Ap)!
