Fraudsters Threaten to Disconnect Electricity For “Non-Payment”

Representatives of New York law enforcement agencies informed citizens about fraudsters operating on the state territory, who pretend to be Con Edison employees and demand payment of the bill through bitcoins.

The police warn that scammers can use various schemes: write emails, call and even come home. They threaten to turn off the electricity for non-payment and in order to avoid this, the victim urgently needs to pay a certain amount in bitcoins.

“Con Edison will not disconnect you from power services during the coronavirus pandemic. Besides, Con Edison never accepts payment through prepaid gift cards, cash applications or bitcoins,” the police warned.

Earlier we wrote that along with the coronavirus pandemic in the USA, various kinds of scammers, who extort bitcoins from people, became active.
