Baccarat dates back to the Middle Ages in Italy, when there was no casino or anything like that. Ancient traders wanted to find something to do in their spare time, and the game was born. Baccarat was formerly known officially as Baccara, which means zero (0) in ancient Italian. The French later named it Baccarat, who later adopted the game and gave it its current style.
