Scientists from the University of Twente in the Netherlands have come up with a safer and less painful way of tattooing. The laser microjet does not use needles and the process of assimilation by skin comes under the action of the microcavity.
The device consists of a container filled with ink with a laser emitter. Due to the high temperature, the ink forms bubbles of overheated steam, which penetrate the skin at a speed of 100 m/s.
In addition to tattooing, this technology can be used to inject drugs under the skin or for cosmetic purposes.
Advantages of using a laser microjet:
- minimum material consumption;
- the accuracy of the transfer of the desired pattern;
- no risk of infection;
- relatively less energy consumption;
- compatibility with various types of ink;
Among the shortcomings, we should note a small reserve of ink, which requires constant refueling.
But we should remember that this is only the first model, which, no doubt, will eventually be improved and will become a full-fledged replacement for tattoo machines.
