Pandemic Covid-19 Contributed Activities of North Korean Hackers
The Lazarus hacker group, which is closely connected with the authorities of North Korea, has intensified attacks on bitcoin traders and crypto companies from around the world amidst the global coronavirus epidemic.
Attackers send emails to their victims, allegedly from companies that provide online payment services. They attach fake contracts for the development of blockchain software in which they place malicious files.
Lazarus usually attacks crypto exchanges and other companies working with digital currencies that are difficult to track, unlike traditional financial institutions.
Recall, the UN Security Council reported that Lazarus is closely connected with the DPRK authorities and they have stolen more than $2 billion in cryptocurrencies in recent years. Most of these funds went to finance the production of weapons of mass destruction, international terrorism, and the maintenance of dictatorship in North Korea.
