New Useful Gadget or Promotional Trick: What Is the WT2 Plus Earphone Translator?

A language barrier is the main cause of disagreements and the reason why people of different nationalities cannot fully communicate. But, besides, a language barrier complicates the lives of many travel lovers. Soon this problem will fall into oblivion, as its solution was suggested by Timekettle company in the form of a new gadget WT2 Plus. Now this device is presented at the International Consumer Electronics Show CES-2019 in Las Vegas.

What is WT2 Plus?

This is a wireless earphone translator, which will become an integral gadget when traveling to foreign countries. The novelty caused a huge interest and made many people wonder: “What is the price of WT2 Plus?”. You can breathe a sigh of relief, because the answer is already there! The cost of WT2 Plus is $ 219.

How does WT2 Plus work?

The earphones support Android and iOS operating platforms. They connect with a mobile device via Bluetooth using the application that allows users to set a language. At the moment, the application supports 20 languages, but in the near future the developers will add another 15.

The feature of the application for WT2 Plus is recognition of various accents. For example, the application supports 5 accents of English, including Australian English.

Direct use of portable earphones occurs as follows: in order both interlocutors can talk and hear each other, each puts one earphone from the kit on. When talking, the earphones transmit the sound to the smartphone for translation and transferring the translation back to the earphones. The delay in processing and transferring sound takes only 3-5 seconds, depending on a sentence size.

Even though the manufacturer emphasized the possibility of real-time translation as its main advantage, in fact the device is capable of translating only short phrases, the duration of which do not exceed 15 seconds. For example, the gadget can not be used for continuous translation of a film in a foreign language.

Regardless of the headphones’ being wireless, they will not catch environing phrases and translate them due to the built-in “Touch” mode, which allows you to use WT2 Plus in crowded places.

The earphones themselves are stored in a pocket-case that resembles Apple’s AirPods case. The earphones are charged from the case. Each earphone has a 110 mA battery, and the case battery capacity is 320 mA. Full charge of the earphones takes 90 minutes. The case works for two weeks without recharging, it is enough for two recharges of each earphone.

The manufacturer plans to increase the accuracy of the WT2 Plus translation to 95%. The translation requires access to the Internet, since it is carried out through Google and Microsoft cloud servers.

Google Has Developed a Helper Application for People with Limited Vision

Google has introduced the application Lookout, which will be useful for people with poor eyesight. This application “sees” surrounding objects and names them with the help of a smartphone camera. At the moment, only residents of the USA can use this application.

Source: https://www.blog.google/

Lookout is a fairly universal assistant, as it can recognize various objects: traffic signs, bar codes, text, money, etc.

Lookout can work in three different modes:

  • quick read;
  • explore;
  • shopping.

In the “quick read” mode, the program doesn’t know how to recognize objects, but only text, which is written on them. In the “explore” mode, the application recognizes those objects that fall into the camera lens of a smartphone. The new product from Google is able to voice what it sees, count the distance to objects, as well as make various sound signals. The “shopping” mode activates the ability to recognize price tags, barcodes, and QR codes.

The user has the ability to set the sensitivity of the application himself. For the convenience in using, developers advise to put the phone in a breast pocket or hang it around the neck, the camera forward. For the correct work of the application, the camera of the phone must be directed to the objects that need to be recognized. Interface management is implemented through gestures on the fingerprint scanner.

It is worth noting that the developers stated that their creation is not 100% working yet and asked the users to report about any errors that occurred.

The New Zealand Mass Shooting Video Goes Viral: Major Social Media Platforms Are Unable to Handle Terrorist Content

The whole world is in terror after a horrible act of violence which took place a few days ago in New Zealand. If you haven’t heard already, here is a recap of what happened on that terrible day.

A 28-year-old Australian man named Brenton Tarrant committed a massacre in two mosques in the town Christchurch located in New Zealand. The terrorist killed 49 and wounded 42 people. While doing so, he was streaming the whole process on the social network Facebook.

Before the attack, Tarrant posted a manifesto, which was 74 pages long. In the document, the terrorist proclaimed himself an “ethno-nationalist eco-fascist.” He expressed inexplicable hate towards people of different religions, for example, Muslims and Jews, and towards immigrants who came to Australia and New Zealand.

The failure of social networks

During and after the act of terror, it became clear that social networks are unable to control such content. The 17-minute-long was first uploaded to Facebook, then re-uploaded to YouTube.

No matter how hard the developer teams tried to delete the horrific video from their platforms, they failed to do so. Whenever one copy of the video was deleted, three more popped up somewhere else.

Google (that owns YouTube) and Facebook have been applying smart technologies in order to track down and eliminate all the content related to the Christchurch massacre, however, the video can still be found in the web.

Shocking, violent and graphic content has no place on our platforms, and we are employing our technology and human resources to quickly review and remove any and all such violative content on YouTube,” claimed the representative of the platform.

The public response

People have divided into two camps. The first ones believe that such horrific content should be eliminated from the Internet. They make statements that the authorities and social media management should restrict hate speeches, manifestos of fascist nature and violent videos.

The other camp stands for freedom of speech. They also claim that the blocking of terrorist accounts on social media may make it more difficult to track them down and prevents shootings, bombings etc. For instance, the Internet correspondence of two Florida students helped to prevent another school bombing just a few days ago.

Despite many arguments, mostly everybody agrees that such terrible and unspeakably cruel acts of violence, deprived of a single hint of humanity, should never be displayed like they were during the New Zealand massacre.

Facebook and other platforms are still working hard to find and delete all the videos of the act of terror and block the corresponding accounts.

Tesla Model Y Reveal Was Not Impressive Which Resulted in a Significant Drop of Tesla Shares

Usually all news about Tesla is divided into news of Elon Musk posting something strange or controversial on Twitter and the actual news on Tesla vehicles. Furthermore, if a price drop of Tesla shares is observed, it is usually connected to the first category of news.

However, this time it seems like Elon Musk didn’t post anything to send the share price into the downfall direction, people just didn’t quite enjoy the newly announced Tesla Model Y.

Elon Musk has strongly decided to make his vehicles more accessible to larger amounts of people, thus establishing much lower prices for Tesla’s later releases. Model Y is his third attempt to enter the car mass market. So what could have disappointed the community so much that it made TSLA price plummet down?

Source: Yahoo Finance

So why wasn’t Tesla Model Y welcomed warmly?

Price

There are two main factors which could have influenced the situation with the shares. Firstly, it is the price of Tesla Model Y. Although it was presented as a more affordable, mass market vehicle, its cost remains unbelievably high.

The starting price of the cheapest, standardized version of Model Y is 39 thousand dollars, while the long range one and Model Y Performance will retail for 47 and 60 thousand dollars correspondingly. Moreover, this is the cost of a bare car, extra details and features will add to the price significantly.

Many experts argue that despite the fact the price of Tesla Model Y is much higher than the similar SUVs, and not everybody believes that this cost is justified.

Nothing new

As we have already mentioned in our review of Model Y, this car shares 70% of details with its predecessor Model 3. The design of the two vehicles is also pretty similar.

Many people were displeased with the fact that Tesla hasn’t added any brand new features to their new car. Model Y looks just like an upgraded version of Model 3, so many people don’t see the need to purchase it.

Thus, these two factors summed up and resulted in an almost 5% drop of Tesla share price.
