Mircea Popescu의 신비한 죽음은 암호화 커뮤니티를 놀라게했습니다.

Bitcoin billionaire Mircea Popescu died on a beach in Costa Rica, leaving behind a controversial legacy and mystery for the entire cryptocurrency community. His death was confirmed by the partner of Adamant Capital, Tuur Demeester.

At first, news of a 41-year-old man drowning on Hermosa Beach, Canton of Garabito, Costa Rica, did not receive much attention. However, after it became clear that the deceased was none other than Mircea Popescu, the incident began to spread rapidly on social networks. This was followed by various versions of what exactly happened to the billionaire.

Among Bitcoiners, the attitude towards Popesk is maximally polar. Some argue that he is the most dedicated Bitcoin evangelist on the market. Others, on the other hand, put him on a par with populists who use the main cryptocurrency only as an excuse to “join the crowd”.

According to Popescu himself, in 2016, his fortune exceeded 1 million Bitcoins, which is equivalent to more than $35 billion, according to Binance. But according to some reports, the billionaire's reserves were more likely in the tens of thousands of BTC, worth about a billion dollars.

In addition to being one of the first Bitcoin investors, Popescu launched his exchange, MPEx, in 2012. However, he was soon forced to close the trading floor due to pressure from the SEC to disclose customer data. Registration at that time cost about 25-30 BTC. The investor himself adhered to the most "classic" views on Bitcoin and the path of its development, therefore he threatened to sell his million Bitcoins in 2016 to sabotage the Segwit2X hard fork.

According to law enforcement agencies, the cause of Popescu's death was water. He was carried away by the current while swimming, after which he drowned because he could not reach the shore.

Naturally, this version did not suit the crypto community, so rumors immediately spread on the network about various options for what caused the death of the billionaire. Among them were everything from its elimination by the hands of the US military to a general conspiracy to kill the people promoting Bitcoin. As arguments for the last thesis, they cited the “suicide” of John McAfee and the death of the head of the Quadriga CX crypto exchange, Jerry Cotten.

After Popescu's death, we can only guess how many Bitcoins he left on his wallets and whether anyone has access to them. At least, his killer, if the version with the intentional "elimination" of the businessman still turns out to be true.
