One of the early investors in Facebook, the A16z fund, hired two specialists who had previously worked on the Novi crypto wallet.
Cryptocurrency division A16z continues to acquire new staff. This time, the venture fund's attention was drawn to the part of the team responsible for the Diem blockchain project from the world's largest social network.
The latest news in the official blog of the foundation announced the joining of Riyaz Faizullabhoy and Nassim Eddequiouaq. Both previously served for Anchorage, a cryptocurrency storage company, before leaving to work on Novi for Facebook. Faizullabhoy was named CTO, while Eddequiouaq became CISO.
After several more years of work on Novi, also known as Calibra, they left for Andreessen Horowitz as CTO and CIO, respectively. Faizullabhoy and Eddequiouaq will advise the portfolio companies and protocols the fund works with, getting convinced they have “the most reliable systems”.
By the way, these are not the first shots that have left the Novi project. Earlier, the team was left by the head of the strategic department Morgan Beller, who joined the venture firm NFX in 2020, and the co-founder of Novi, who left before the active development phase of the crypto wallet, Kevin Weil, who soon joined the satellite photography firm Planet Labs.
The head of the fund, Marc Andreessen, had been on the Facebook council of directors since 2008 - one year before the start of Andreessen Horowitz. Some members of the crypto community believe that it was this fact that influenced the “exchange of professionals” between these two corporate giants.
