The infamous creator of the eponymous antivirus, John McAfee, was found dead in Spain's jail prison cell. This happened a few hours after the approval of his extradition to the United States.
In the fall of 2020, McAfee was detained at a Spanish airport. He was adjudged of tax evasion between 2014 and 2018 and has since been held in a prison near Barcelona.
According to the US Department of Justice, the entrepreneur earned “millions of dollars” from digital currencies, his consultations related to them and ICOs, and also hid the ownership of various assets. Amongst them, they found real estate, a car, and a yacht, registered in the name of dummies. In total, on all charges, he was threatened with imprisonment of up to 30 years.
The Spanish Ministry of Justice approved McAfee's death and his lawyer said that the entrepreneur most likely committed suicide. The Internet, in turn, was instantly flooded with rumors and conspiracy theories of varying degrees of delusion. At the same time, some of them looked too truthful, so they quickly began to multiply on social networks.
One of these was the tweet of an American businessman he published in October 2020 after his arrest. In it, McAfee said that he had friends in prison and he was happy with everything, and also clarified that if he was found hanged, as Epstein was once found dead, it would not be his fault. Which provided us with considerable scope, both for conspiracy theories and for more rational reasoning. For example, about the correctness of the approach of American justice, which pushes people to extreme measures.
It is also worth noting that sometime after his arrest, McAfee stated that life in a Spanish prison resembles Hilton hotels compared to American penitentiaries. In the latter, according to him, there is no "humanity" at all. Some believe that this may have prompted the programmer to commit suicide.
