Mark Cuban has joined the round of funding for the project of the Sky Mavis development team an NFT-based game Axie Infinity. In the Serie A round, they raised over $7.5 million.
The game about monsters, reminiscent of its concept of a mixture of Pokemon and Tamagotchi, fell in love with the cryptocurrency community. She gained particular popularity in the Philippines, where some people managed not only to earn more on it than on their main job but also to acquire real estate at the expense of the proceeds from the game. Today, many large investors are starting to look closely at the Sky Mavis team, giving its popularity a new round.
Among those who liked the idea of the developers were not only the billionaire and owner of Dallas Mavericks Mark Cuban, but also the co-founder of Reddit Alexis Ohanian. Libertus Capital took the lead in the Serie A round. Cuban noted that he is extremely happy to be part of the game's community and believes that the sound economy will make it “something special”.
More than 41,000 active users log into the game every day of the 45,000 who own the Axie monsters, and its monthly trading volume already exceeds $15 million. In addition, the news has repeatedly flashed colossal sums for which local players manage to sell in-game items. So, for example, one of them managed to bail out $1.5 million in Ethereum equivalent for a virtual piece of land.
Previously, Axie Infinity was supported even by one of the largest game publishers Ubisoft through the Entrepreneurs Lab program. Now, thanks to additional investments, the creators have a chance to make their project even more popular, significantly increasing the “population” of their virtual crypto world.
