FIFA launches NFT platform on Algorand ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
With only a few months left before the 2022 FIFA World Cup, FIFA has announced the launch of a football-themed NFT platform.
FIFA Commercial Director Romi Gay said:
“Just like sports memorabilia and stickers, this is an affordable opportunity for fans around the world to connect with their favorite players, moments and more on new platforms.”
Algorand is a blockchain-based self-sufficient decentralized network that supports a wide range of applications. These systems are secure, scalable, and efficient—all of which are critical to efficient real-world applications.
The Algorand mainnet went live in June 2019 and as of December 2020 was able to process almost 1 million transactions per day. Algorand is designed to provide lower transaction fees, as well as the absence of mining (like the energy-intensive process of Bitcoin), as it is based on the pure proof of stake (PoS) blockchain protocol.
