Instagram Launches a Shopping Feature “Checkout”

The social media platform Instagram is experimenting with new ways to expand the application and the range of activities users can do there. The Instagram team has recently announced the new feature, called Checkout.

With the help of Checkout, Instagram users will be able to see the product in the app, read comments about below the picture, and then they will have an opportunity to purchase this product right away, without leaving Instagram.

This feature is quite easy to use. When you see a product you like, you just need to tap on it and select the “checkout” option. Then you are free to choose whatever color, size, design you want. After that, you need to fill in your payment and shipping info, and you’re done.

Checkout is a brand new development, thus it has only been put up in a beta-version for the developers to check how it works and make all the necessary corrections before the main launch as well as to add more brands to the selection.

The shopping feature is currently available only in the United States and only for businesses and corporations.

As of now, Instagram has already cooperated with a bunch of high-end brands regarding their new feature. They partnered up with sportswear stores Nike and Adidas; makeup brands Anastasia Beverly Hills, Huda Beauty, NYX; clothing stores H&M, Zara, Uniqlo and many others.

Overall, 23 various brands are available for purchase at the moment, but the number of them will totally grow in the future.

Although the Checkout feature has mostly received positive feedback from Instagram users, some people are quite upset, because this upgrade means that the amount of ads on the platform will increase significantly.
