Hackers Used Microsoft Power For Crypto Mining
Cybercriminals attacked Microsoft cloud service Azure. They used it to mine the anonymous cryptocurrency Monero.
The attackers were aimed at the nodes that worked with the Kubeflow toolkit, designed for machine learning Kubernetes. They operate with relatively large capacities, as they have graphic processors.
More about the attack
Once the attackers gained access to the Kubernetes clusters, they introduced new server images into them, which launched the Monero mining program.
Microsoft representatives announced several dozen compromised Kubernetes clusters. Experts say that a hacker attack became possible due to incorrect settings of Kubeflow. These cyber-attacks began in April this year.
