Walmart Denies Report on Stopping Sales of Video Games with Elements of Violence
Earlier, the publisher of IGN reported that Walmart is going to remove video games that have violent scenes from their shelves, but a little later the seller denied this information. Instead of completely banning the sale of games with elements of violence, Walmart is going to remove ads and demos for only some video games (with elements of violence in the plot) after a mass shooting in El Paso last weekend.
“We’ve taken this action out of respect for the incidents of the past week, and it does not reflect a long-term change in our video game assortment,” a company spokesperson told The Verge. “We are focused on assisting our associates and their families, as well as supporting the community, as we continue a thoughtful and thorough review of our policies.”
The representative of Walmart emphasized that this solution does not mean the removal of these games from the company's range. The removal of violent video game images in some places of Walmart occurred after a mass shooting at a Walmart supermarket in El Paso, Texas, which killed 22 people and 24 injured. The society again started talking about the fault of video games in this tragic incident. US President Donald Trump said at a press conference earlier this week:
“We must stop the glorification of violence in our society. This includes the gruesome and grisly video games that are now commonplace.”
