L'université roumaine accepte les paiements en crypto-monnaie
"Lucian Blaga" University (LBUS), located in Sibiu, has declared its readiness to accept entry fees from applicants in the equivalent of cryptocurrencies.
According to university officials, where more than 11,000 people are currently studying, this step has become one of the points of the program to support local business such as the Romanian blockchain startup Elrond, which launched its own application in February this year. Today the price for one Elrond EGLD token is $222 on the Binance exchange, and its market capitalisation has exceeded $4 million.
Prospective students can pay the entry fee as early as the second half of 2021. Tuition costs about $1,000 per one year in the equivalent of EGLD cryptocurrency, which will automatically be converted into Romanian leu upon receipt of funds by the educational institution.
The LBUS rector claims that the university will not stop at supporting Elrond and intends to build a detailed strategy to help local businesses. Representatives of the Romanian startup also clarified that they are aiming at further cooperation with Lucian Blaga. This includes research work in the blockchain industry.
