Le FBI a réussi à récupérer 63,7 BTC volés par les pirates de DarkSide

The US DoJ declared that they were able to recover $2.3 million in Bitcoin equivalent from the amount previously paid to the group of hackers, knows as DarkSide after the attack on the Colonial Pipeline operator.

The amount of 63.7 BTC was only part of the payoff previously handed over to hackers. Law enforcement agencies say they were able to trace the chain of transfers and the wallets involved, and then obtain a secret key from one of the BTC addresses.

The crypto community was greatly disturbed by the news that the FBI could access their digital currency wallets at any time. And although the feds themselves, of course, do not disclose the way they managed to get hold of the coins, one of the crypto enthusiasts decided to describe a possible scenario for this on his Twitter.

The CryptoCloaks account suggested that the FBI did not hack the wallet, but rather “hacked” the server. In response to this, Blockstream CEO Adam Back said that the secret service had simply filed a request to gain access to a crypto wallet from a provider assigned to it in Northern California. Others began to blame Coinbase for the incident, claiming that the 63.7 BTC received by law enforcement officers “passed”, including through Coinbase's Californian servers. In response, Coinbase Chief Security Officer Philip Martin joined the thread on Twitter, clarifying that Coinbase has no confirmation that this amount went through one of the exchange's wallets.

One of the representatives of the US attorney also clarified that the authorities do not intend to retreat in the fight against virtual attackers, and Joe Biden even intends to raise the issue of cryptocurrencies at the upcoming G7 summit. In addition, he previously submitted a request to American law enforcement agencies to study the tracking of crypto transactions to counter hackers and ransomware in the future.
