La province du Zhejiang recherche des mineurs dans les agences gouvernementales
In the Chinese province of Zhejiang, a search has begun for miners organizing the extraction of digital currencies in administration institutions.
The Zhejiang Cyberspace Administration reported on WeChat about the discovery and arrest of a group of miners responsible for mining cryptocurrencies at one of the state-owned enterprises. Local law enforcement officers found GPU farms installed by “would-be businessmen” that mined Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The investigation started in early September before the Chinese authorities imposed a total ban on any trading activity related to cryptocurrencies. The police raided 4,699 IP addresses that were assumed of unlawful mining. Of these, 184 IP addresses were identified belonging to 77 government agencies concerned in the extraction of crypto assets. After analyzing the IP addresses involved in the extraction of digital currencies, the inspectors visited 20 departments linked with 119 IP addresses presumed unlawful actions.
Some of the hardest miners to identify are those who mine Filecoin (FIL) cryptocurrency, police said. It does not require as high energy consumption as its “colleagues” Ethereum and Bitcoin, as well as special equipment in the form of ASIC miners.
Despite a significant increase in the repression of mining, the Chinese Ethereum mining community does not intend to give up, and the network hash rate continues to break all records. And this is despite the closure of several of the largest mining pools located earlier in the PRC.
Over the past few weeks, the hash rate located in Sparkpool has migrated to F2Pool, whose capacity has doubled, exceeding 165 TH/s. In parallel with this, Ethermine's hash rate also increased by 15%, reaching over 185 TH/s.
Today, China is grappling with the most critical power shortages in a decade, and Zhejiang is one of the provinces hit hardest by it. Therefore, the reasons for taking serious measures to curb excessive energy consumption are quite expected.
Earlier, checks for miners in government agencies, universities, and schools were also announced in Hebei province in the north of the country.
