Cryptocurrencies in Russia can be used for foreign trade

The authorities of the Russian Federation are considering the use of cryptocurrencies for international settlements. This was told by the official of the Ministry of Finance Ivan Chebeskov.

The Russian authorities are interested in cryptocurrencies, since the possibilities of using the domestic fiat currency in the international market are limited.

If Russia recognizes the digital currency as property, Chebeskov noted, it can be used to support foreign economic activity.

The possible use of BTC as payment for the supply of natural resources was announced back in March. Noting that such an opportunity will be provided to a limited number of countries, such as China or Turkey. So far, however, the matter has not progressed beyond talk.

Also on Friday, information appeared on the share of mining in the structure of energy consumption in Russia. It turned out that mining enterprises consume about 2% of all energy used in the country. This indicator is more than used by Russian agricultural enterprises.

In this regard, the representative of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Vasily Shpak stated that it is necessary to recognize mining and regulate this market in order to make the production of cryptocurrencies in Russia transparent and protect mining companies from potential risks.

Recall that according to the Cambridge Center, the share of Russian mining in the global market has decreased to 4.7%. Now Russia is in 5th place in terms of hash rate.
