Fidelity Investments: every third institutional investor holds bitcoin

The largest financial corporation in the world, which manages the capital of 7.2 trillion US dollars, Fidelity Investments, carried out a survey among its clients.

Largest investors choose bitcoin

It turned out, 36% of institutional investors polled, hold cryptocurrencies in their portfolio. The study shows that the main obstacle for the wide adoption of digital currencies is increased volatility.

The largest funds are increasing their crypto portfolios

Looking at the data for the last year, it appears that the number of institutional investors, who invest in cryptocurrencies, has increased from 22% to 27% in the United States alone. More than 25% of them prefer bitcoin, and every tenth holds Ethereum.

As for European countries, the number of large investors who have added cryptocurrencies to their portfolios is approaching 50%.

“Europe is perhaps more supportive and accommodating,” Tom Jessop, president of Fidelity Digital Assets, said in an interview. That could “be just things going on in Europe right now, you got negative interest rates in many countries. Bitcoin may look more attractive because there are other assets that aren’t paying return.”

The boom of custodial crypto services

Experts from Bloomberg believe that the launch of special services aimed at large investors and prime brokerage of projects such as Genesis and BitGo are direct evidence of such dynamics.
