Facebook Announced a Method of Moderating the Pages of Departed Users

Usually, people use Facebook to share different moments of their life: from publishing vacation photos that cause FOMO to mysterious status updates. But when a person dies, his profile often turns into a memorial space.

In order to protect users from receiving notifications about loved ones who are no longer alive, Facebook intends to attract artificial intelligence.

Now, in case of the user death, artificial intelligence will act in such a way as not to show such profiles in places that may cause chagrin, such as recommendations for events or birthday reminders to friends.

Also, the social platform has announced a new tool that allows you to “honor” those who are no longer alive.

“We know the loss of a friend or family member can be devastating — and we want Facebook to be a place where people can support each other while honoring the memory of their loved ones”, Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer, said.

A new tab on the page of a deceased user will allow friends on Facebook to publish memories and condolences, create their original chronology without the possibility of making changes. According to Sandberg, 30 million people monthly view profiles of the departed.
