Baidu y Weibo bloquean las búsquedas de Huobi, Binance y OKEx
The largest Chinese services Baidu and Weibo have agreed to their efforts, starting to block keywords in the results of the search in the form of the names of the popular crypto exchanges OKEx, Binance, and Huobi.
Many users have noticed a strange "innovation" in the popular Chinese search engine and social network. Direct requests with the English names of the cryptocurrency marketplaces Huobi, Binance, and OKEx now do not return any results in the desktop and mobile versions of Baidu. This is the first time a Chinese search engine has blocked cryptocurrency-related keywords.
It is also worth noting that when Baidu searches for queries like “download the Huobi application” in Chinese, the search engine still returns millions of different results. However, single requests with the name of one of the above-listed exchanges are simply ignored.
Weibo has taken similar measures and now searches with the names of popular crypto exchanges do not return any results. At the same time, in the case of “Chinese Twitter”, the blocking was applied not only to English but also to Chinese versions of the names of trading floors.
It is not yet known why both services decided to simultaneously press the "button of censorship". Chinese users have started reporting the "update" they've noticed since yesterday evening. At the same time, the words "Bitcoin", "Ethereum" and other names of popular cryptocurrencies in the issuance have not yet been blocked.
Apparently, the search engine and the social network are "hitting" primarily those exchanges that attend millions of local investors. But for what purpose, remains a mystery.
