Uber Launches Air Taxi Service in New York

From July 9, an air taxi service – Uber Copter – will be available to the residents of New York. It is reported by The New York Times.

Passengers will be able to travel from Lower Manhattan to Kennedy Airport in only eight minutes, with an estimated price of $200-250. Uber Copter prices will largely depend on demand.

When traveling by car, it takes at least an hour to travel through the same route, and between 50 to 75 minutes by public transport.

The helicopters can accommodate up to five passengers and will be available from Monday to Friday at rush hour in the afternoon. Restrictions also apply to baggage – Uber Copter passengers are allowed to carry only hand baggage up to 18 kg.

Although the prospect of leaving the traffic jams in New York may seem attractive, this service will be available only to Uber Platinum and Diamond members – the top two loyalty programs of the company.

Eric Allison, the head of Uber Elevate, told The New York Times that the new service would save users a tremendous amount of time.

“Our plan is to eventually deploy Uber Copter to more Uber customers in other cities, but we want to do it right.”
