You have spent almost an hour to create your unique password but it was hacked in several days, then you definitely should read this article. The UK’s National Cyber Security Center posted a list of the worst passwords in 2018, let us look at it.
The list includes the names of famous and influential people, soccer players, musicians, fiction characters, yet a wreath of fame goes to “123456” password as it is literary the easiest 6-digit password in the world. In fact, 6-digit passwords are considered to be the worst for years as they do not provide a relevant level of security.
Another password which is likely to be hacked in milliseconds is “123456789”, even though it has 9 digits, this combination is easy to guess even for a novice hacker. The NCSC reports that about 30 million people became victims using these two passwords.
The NCSC’s technical director said:
“We understand that cyber security can feel daunting to a lot of people, but the NCSC has published lots of easily applicable advice to make you much less vulnerable. Password re-use is a major risk that can be avoided — nobody should protect sensitive data with something that can be guessed, like their first name, local football team or favorite band.”
Weak passwords are a big problem both for single users, and big companies since important data can be easily stolen. When one creates their own password, they should remember to make it as difficult as possible. A strong password guarantees your safety.
Below you can see a table of the amount of time necessary to crack the passwords. Please, pay attention to it when making up your password.
