Fortnite is an online video game developed and published by the studio Epic Games in 2017. The game has 3 main versions:
- Fortnite: Save the World – a survival mode, where the players unite in groups up to four and fight zombies together;
- Fortnite Creative – a mode, where the players are given the chance to design worlds within the game;
- Fortnite Battle Royale – the most popular mode, where 100 players fight with each other, until only one winner remains.
The game can currently boast of unbelievable levels of popularity, it unites millions of video gamers from all over the world.
That is why the news on the upcoming Fortnite championship aroused no less interest in the community than Dota’s The International.
Fortnite World Cup 2019
Here a few details about the upcoming championship, published by Epic Games developers on the official site.
Firstly, the World Cup will have a certain structure: the first stage of the championship will last from April 30 to June 16. During this time, the players will fight for a prize fund of 1 million dollars in the course of 10 qualifying online battles. The money will be distributed equally for each battle winner.
Afterwards, the best 100 players (50 pairs) will come to New York for a final stage, which will take place from July 26 to July 28. Here the prize fund is 30 million dollars. That means that every player that “made the cut” will get at least 50 thousand dollars. The winner of the solo battle will become a lucky winner of 3 million dollars.
As for other player activities besides the main tournament, Epic Games is also going to hold additional events tournaments throughout the rest of the year:
“We will continue to award $1,000,000 in cash tournaments weekly through the end of this year. We will also provide tournament tools and prizing to select partners to better serve competitive Fortnite in more countries and regions around the world on our way to awarding the full $100,000,000 in 2019.”
Such a huge prize fund makes Fortnite World Cup the largest video game championship, leaving The International and League of Legends World Championship far behind.
