As it became known, Facebook hired third-party contractors to decrypt the voice messages of Facebook Messenger users, Bloomberg reports about it citing sources. Facebook officials said they abandoned this in early August. The company explained that the contractors checked whether the artificial intelligence interpreted the voice messages of users correctly. Facebook claims that contractors only listened to audio messages from users who agreed to decrypt speech in Facebook Messenger.
However, Bloomberg notes that users are nowhere to be warned that third parties can listen to their voice messages. Contractors claim that they did not know where the messages were coming from, and also did not know the ultimate goal of this decryption. Earlier Apple, Amazon and Google were caught in the wiretapping.
