Apple has signed an agreement with Qualcomm to ensure that the new iPhone, which will support fifth-generation mobile networks, will not be late for the market. But for this, Apple needs to get a part of the modem business and patents of Intel. According to unconfirmed information, Apple representatives are currently negotiating with Intel on this issue.
According to the report of The Wall Street Journal, the price of this business is estimated at approximately $1 billion. Time is running out of Apple, so they will try to close the deal as soon as possible. This purchase can bring Apple hundreds of talented engineers, dozens of unique patents that will allow to incorporate all of these technologies into their products.
It is worth noting that this deal will not affect the short term relationship between Apple and Qualcomm. Apple worked closely with the Intel modem team, especially during their legal issues with Qualcomm, although, as reported, the Intel team was lagging behind in scaling the development of the 5G modem.
Apple representatives did not comment on this information.
