Apple Plans to Limit iOS Apps Access to Data Collection in the Background

Based on the latest report from The Information, Apple wants to reduce the functionality of applications that can collect data in the background. In the future, Apple will allow the use of background data collection exclusively for VoIP calls.

These innovations can have a big influence on messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Both of these applications use a specific Apple tool to circumvent this limitation. For example, WhatsApp uses current VoIP call technologies to implement end-to-end encryption.

This Apple`s decision is not a surprise, since it has long been known that the company is actively working to increase user privacy, and this step is another confirmation of this.

“To be clear — we are using the PushKit VoIP API to deliver a world-class, private messaging experience, not for the purpose of collecting data,” – a company spokesperson told The Information.
