The latest episode of by no doubts the most popular TV show at the moment, “Game of Thrones”, season 8, episode 3, to be specific, was meant to be the most breathtaking, nerve racking and spectacular one in the whole 8 episode.
“The Long Night” took almost 2 months and hundreds of people to produce. It was supposed to be the greatest battle scene, which could be compared with one in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
Unfortunately, not everything went as planned. Although the plot was pretty epic, as expected, the quality of the video spoilt the impressions and even confused some viewers who couldn’t make out what was happening on the screen.
“The Long Night”, or rather “The Dark Night”
SPOILER ALERT! Our article will not contain heavy spoilers, however, if you are a fan of “Game of Thrones” and still haven’t watched the episode, we kindly ask you to do so first and then come back.
As we were saying, despite of the breathtaking plot twists, the quality of the video sequence was really low. This is understandable, considering that the 80-minute long episode contained massive amounts of computer graphics. The footage had to be compressed so that it could be streamed by viewers, and this affected the quality.
The whole episode was supposed to be dark and gloomy, it’s the war between the dead and the living, after all. But many people complained that the video was so dark that they could barely see anything. This could especially be observed in the scene where Jon Snow and Daenerys on top of their dragons get trapped in the smog created by the Night King and in the close-ups of combat scenes.
That is why, a lot of Twitter complaints and memes followed the episode.
Tried to watch Game Of Thrones tonight but the episode was too dark to see anything. It sounded very exciting though!

How to fix this?
If you haven’t watched the episode or want to re-watch it, here are a few tips on how to make the episode a bit less “gloomy”, at least quality-wise.
- If you’re watching the episode on the Internet, find the site, which offers the best quality options.
- Put the brightness of your TV/laptop on maximum.
- If you are watching the episode on TV, try to reduce the backlight level.
- Turn off all the other sources of light in the room.
- Wait until it comes out n Blu-ray.
