Cyberpolice of the city of Odesa, Ukraine, detained a 20-year-old student accused of hidden mining of digital currencies, the official website of the department informs.
“Having received a technical education, the young man used the acquired knowledge to commit illegal actions. As a member of hacker forums, he acquired malware and modified it. The virus was intended for hidden mining,” the cyber police report said.
The police opened a criminal case under section 361-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (the creation of harmful software or hardware for the purpose of distributing and marketing). If the suspect is found guilty, he gets in jail for up to five years.
