Elon Musk Wants to Use SpaceX’s Starship Aircraft to Transport People on Earth
The CEO of the space company SpaceX Elon Musk has set a couple of global goals for the next few years. First and foremost, his employees and him are currently working on launching 12 thousand satellites onto the Earth orbit in order to provide high-speed Internet in every part of the planet. Here SpaceX came up with an interesting solution. They want to make a few adjustments to their Starship aircraft and use it for Earth-to-Earth transportation. According to Elon Musk, by using a single-stage rocket and significantly reducing its complexity, they will be able to make such transportation much safer and less expensive, let alone the speed of these “flights”.
With the described speed, which is around 6.9 km per second, a passenger could easily travel from Los Angeles to Tokyo in just 40 minutes on board of Starship instead of 11 hours on board of a regular plane. Yeah, *way* better. Dramatically improves cost, complexity & ease of operations. Distances of ~10,000 km with decent payload seem achievable at roughly Mach 20.— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) 30 мая 2019 г.
