WeChat hat begonnen, Binance und Huobi in SERPs zu blockieren
Chinese WeChat users have found that searches for “Binance” and “Huobi” are being censored by the search engine.
Popular messaging platform WeChat appears to have introduced additional protections for local users amid stringent cryptocurrency bans from local authorities. Now, if you enter a query about crypto exchanges “Binance” or “Huobi” in the search bar, the search is unsuccessful.
According to users from the PRC, a notification about the lack of results appears regardless of the language change. After verifying queries in both Chinese and English, the platform's search engine stubbornly ignores both marketplaces. Although articles related to exchanging and trading cryptocurrencies, even within Binance and Huobi, are still available.
Previously, such compulsory restrictions have already been reported. But then it was not about WeChat, but about other popular social networks the Chinese equivalent of Twitter Weibo, and the Baidu search engine. Both of them suddenly started blocking searches related to the largest exchanges Binance, Huobi, as well as the OKEx cryptocurrency trading platform.
However, their users soon discovered some loopholes by typing additional words into the search bar. Instead of “Huobi,” they typed in “Huobi app” in Chinese. In this case, the search engine ignored the restrictions and continued to return millions of results.
At the same time, Binance and Huobi have tried to limit their functionality as much as possible for mainland China users. So, the latter announced the closure of trading opportunities for local accounts, and a little later, Binance joined the introduction of restrictions. Today, its representatives announced the closure of the OTC trading opportunity from December 31, 2021.
