Police officer planned the kidnapping of a trader in India

A high-profile case is being investigated in India. A gang of 8 people, which included a police officer, kidnapped cryptocurrency trader Vijay Naik and demanded a ransom of $40 million in BTC and about $10.7 thousand in local currency in cash from him.

According to the official who released official information on the case, the kidnapping was planned by a police officer. He worked in the cybercrime department and had access to data on citizens' cryptocurrency assets.

The kidnapping took place on January 14, 2022. The victim was released during a special operation. All 8 intruders were arrested.

A similar incident happened in Hong Kong last year. A local resident arrived at a meeting with a Tether buyer, but was taken hostage. Fortunately, after a couple of days he managed to escape on his own, but the attackers were never found.
