Monex Will Buy a Cryptocurrency Exchange Coincheck
A Japanese cryptocurrency exchange Coincheck, which suffered one of the most massive hacker attacks on the 26th of January this year, agreed to a proposal to be bought by the Japanese online brokerage firm Monex Group.
The chief operating officer of Monex, Toshihiko Katsuya, will run for the office of Coincheck’s new president, while the founding president of Coincheck Koichiro Wada and chief operating officer Yusuke Otsuka will resign, according to the Nikkei Asian Review.
The rumors of a possible attempt to take over and reorganize the management took place on Tuesday, the 3rd of April, 2018. Shortly thereafter Monex confirmed in a press release that it was considering this step.
Along with the new leadership, Coincheck will receive an inflow of new capital in the form of "several billion Japanese yen" (1 billion JPY = 9.34 million dollars) from Monex. The final details will be published on Friday after the deal is signed.
