
Ethereum Developers Delay the Difficulty Bomb Using Harfork
More recently, the official website of the non-profit organization Ethereum Foundation posted information about the coming technical hard fork, purposed to delay the so-called complexity bomb.
This update was called Muir Glacier, and it will be introduced at block #9200000, which is expected to be produced on January 2, 2020.
The difficulty bomb is the complementary PoW algorithm, responsible for regulating the complexity of the Ethereum network. It increases the complexity in geometric progression with a frequency of every 100 thousand blocks. This difficulty bomb should further stimulate the transition of network participants to the new PoS algorithm.
Earlier due to technical problems, developers wanted to remove this mechanism at all but then decided to postpone it by 4 million blocks.
To date, the complexity of the Ethereum network is 17.15 seconds. Of course, this figure is almost half that of the peak, recorded in September 2017, but still, this leads to a rather long transaction time.
