An Artist Hid Cryptocurrency for the Amount of $9000 in the Paintings

A new series of paintings by Andy Bauch “New Money” combines art and cryptocurrencies, hiding abstract codes in his “Lego” pictures. The secret keys to the wallets, encrypted in the pictures, contain $9000 worth of cryptocurrency.

Bauch says that each part of the series “is a secret key to various types of cryptocurrency.” He bought Bitcoin, Litecoin and other altcoins in 2016, placing them into different digital wallets. Each wallet is encrypted with a secret key consisting of a line of letters and digits. This key was originally created in the algorithm and is hidden in Andy Bauch’s paintings.

“A lot of the work that I’m doing is trying to span this gap that often exists between new technology and humanity,” Bauch said

For the time being no one has been able to unravel the code yet and the cryptocurrency is still in the wallets. The cost of each painting ranges from 1500 to 4800 dollars. It has nothing to do with the amount that is stored in the cryptocurrency wallets.

The exhibition of the artist’s works called “New Money” opened on the 23rd of March in Los Angeles, in the Castelli Art Space art gallery.
