AMD and Cray are Creating Supercomputer for the US Government
For comparison, the power of one Nvidia RTX 2080 processor is approximately 14 TFLOPS and it handles 100,000 times fewer operations. According to the TOP500 rating portal, the power of the fastest supercomputer presented to the modern world today is 200 PFLOPS, or 0.2 EFLOPS. Frontier will use AMD Epyc processors (most likely Zen 3 or Zen 4 architectures). The Cray Slingshot connection will be used between the nodes, the data transfer rate for which will be up to 200 Gbit/s. HBM memory will be integrated into GPUs. It is planned that the first deliveries of Frontier will be realized in 2021 and its cost will be about $600 million. Companies are positioning their innovative development as the fastest supercomputer in the world.
