We have recently reported about the second generation of the wireless headphones of Apple, AirPods, and their cool features. It seems like this gadget has become quite monopolistic, since there is no decent competition so far. But if the situation is about to change?
According to the report made by Bloomberg, compiled with the help of the information provided by anonymous sources, the e-commerce giant Amazon is working on the development of wireless earbuds, similar in design and functions to Apple’s all-time favorite, AirPods.
Allegedly, the new device will have an embedded access to the personalized assistant Alexa, which can be used for performing a wide range of tasks. Moreover, it will compete with AirPods due to the better quality of sound, a more convenient feeling when worn and a cheaper price point.
As mentioned in the report:
“The headphones will let people use their voice to order goods, access music, weather and other information on the go. The Amazon digital assistant will be summoned by saying “Alexa.” There will be physical gesture controls, such as tapping to pick up and end calls and switch between songs.”
The main question that arises around this whole endeavour is related to the primary feature of wireless earbuds – the ability to do things with your phone without the need to touch it, get it out of the pocket, basically, engage your hands in any way.
Being an official and exclusive hardware of Apple, AirPods let its users perform various tasks even if their phone is locked, this happens through the special app, connecting earbuds with the device.
Meanwhile, other gadgets do not have such privileges and, thus, they are unable to provide such features. It means that, unfortunately, in case with the earbuds, others from AirPods, you will still have to reach for your phone and unlock it to get things going.
It is quite doubtful that Apple is going to share any of its technologies with Amazon, so it is unclear how the company is going to pull their idea off. To find out more, we will have to wait for official announcements from the company.
