While making his speech Akon mentioned blockchain and virtual currencies. He believes that they are key factors that can change the game for African people and lift the quality of life there on a brand new level.
“I think that blockchain and crypto could be the savior for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system and also allows the people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down,” he told Page Six.
One of his ideas is the building of a smart city in his home country Senegal that is going to be backed up by blockchain and will use only digital currency for transactions. The administration provided the rapper with the land necessary for the construction. The unique settlement will have the name Akon Crypto City. Its main currency is going to be Akoin.
The eccentric rapper has other ambitious plans. For example, he is planning to keep company to Donald Trump and Kanye West at the time of the presidential election of 2020.
We would like to remind you, Akon is not the only person involved in the cryptocurrency world who wants to become the US Presidents. A cryptocurrency activist John McAfee announced his plans to run for the presidency in 2020.
