According to the newspaper Mainichi Shimbun, Russian hackers may be involved in the hacking the Coincheck crypto-exchange. According to the publication, the unknowns sent approximately $ 10 out of more than $ 500 million in one of the top cryptocurrencies – NEM. An investigation has begun in Japan.
The hackers attacked Coincheck in late January. All the operations for withdrawing money and trading were temporarily suspended because of the scammers. The company confirmed its intention to return the stolen assets to the users. According to the announcement, the exchange will use its own capital to compensate the losses.
